RAZORS EDGE

B&H: Right, first of all, Razors Edge are 10 years old this year, bit of a milestone for you. Tell us about your early days before the band. When did you first meet up and was starting a band always on the cards?

RE, Andy: I think I first met up with Sid at one of the National Front’s R.A.C. gigs in Suffolk, remember them? I think it was 1985 or ‘86. I was in the NF at the time and we used to always run a coach from my end to all the gigs. Sid used to be one of the 40 or 50 Brummy skins who’d go with us. After that we’d meet up on and off at gigs but we didn’t get talking kicking off a band until about ‘89 or ‘90. It was at a Skrewdriver gig in Bloxwich (remember those gigs at the ‘Chimneys’?) that Sid told me he’d got something together and I said then that I’d like to give the vocals a whirl. I honestly didn’t think anything would come of it but a few weeks later we met up again at a skinhead ‘drinker’ near the city centre and we arranged a rehearsal. So anyway, a week later and I’m belting out ‘No Surrender’ like a good ‘un and we just went on from there. It’s hard to believe that it was 10 years ago.

B&H: Sadly, you’re one of only a handful of W.P. bands in the world today who had the honour of supporting Skrewdriver. What are your lasting memories of those days and Ian?

RE, Andy: They were magic times for us - Skrewdriver were the inspiration for starting a band in the first place and to get to gig with them was just fantastic! Whatever else occurs on the scene, I think these will always be the most special of times. My lasting memories of Ian and Skrewdriver would be just as a regular Skrewdriver fan, going to gigs and having a great time. Ian held the whole thing together more than he will ever know and it will never be the same without him.

B&H: OK, you played with the best! What about the rest? Who do you rate on the scene today in England?

RE, Andy: I thought Celtic Warrior’s last CD ‘Invader’ was really good, especially the ‘Sidney Cooke’ number. Also the Chingford’s debut CD, ‘Reds better run...’ does the business, I’d give them 10 out of 10. But apart from that there’s nothing much to rave about at the moment is there? I’ve not yet heard the Serbian band ‘Terror Machine’s’ CD yet but I’ve heard that’s one to get.We finished the fourth Razors CD second week of November last year. We’ve called it ‘Our Flag is Going Forward Too’ and it’s ten new tracks plus a re-working of ‘Lest We Forget’ and a cover of Skrewdriver’s ‘Triumph of the Will’. The new stuff’s pretty much in the vein of ‘These Wheels Roll for Victory’ although probably better paced. I think it’ll be a good one! It should be released at the beginning of February, we’ve just heard from the German label that’s producing it.

B&H: Anything else new in Deutschland? We hear DI-AL Records are planning to re-release your ‘93 debut C.D. ‘The Flag Still Flies’ - What’s the latest?

RE, Andy: Yeah, ‘The Flag Still...’ has been deleted for some time now, one or two other labels have enquired about doing a re-press but we now hear DI-AL are gonna go ahead with it. If Alex thinks there’s still a demand he should do it. I think they’re gonna change the cover and maybe update the photo booklet as well.

B&H: Any other projects planned?

RE, Andy: We’re kicking a few things round right now - me and Pernod from ‘Hate Society’ are gonna do something later this year and Sid’s never short of good ideas. Watch this space!

B&H: You’ve already mentioned your gigs with Skrewdriver. What other highlights have there been for Razors Edge over the last decade?

RE, Andy: Getting our debut LP released was a fantastic feeling but the chance to get out and play live all over Europe is even better than that!

B&H: Anything to add?

RE, Andy: Yeah, thanks to everyone throughout the White world who’s stuck by the band down the years - we won’t forget it! 88! and 14 Words. Razors Edge.

WHATEVER IT TAKES!
